  • Ես I

    First-person pronoun, nominative. Often dropped — the auxiliary (եմ) already says who.

  • Դու You (one person)

    To one person you are on first-name terms with.

  • Նա He, she

    One word for “he” and “she”: the pronoun has no gender. Also means “that one”, away from both speakers.

  • Մենք We
  • Դուք You (plural or polite)

    To several people, or politely to one — a stranger, an elder, anyone serving you.

  • Նրանք They

    The plural of նա. Also means “those ones”, away from both speakers.

  • Այս This

    Near the speaker. Sits before the noun and never changes shape.

  • Այդ That

    Near the person being spoken to — the second of Armenian’s three distances.

  • Այն That (over there)

    Away from both speakers — the third of Armenian’s three distances.

  • Սա This one

    Այս used on its own, without a noun.

  • Դա That one

    Այդ used on its own, without a noun.

    The plural of սա — near the speaker, used on its own without a noun.
